TEAM AFRO & WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

Team Afro has been involved with esCarpade, raising funds for Camp Quality since 2011. Though the team has changed from year to year the philosophy remains the same, to raise as much as we can to support the programs that Camp Quality offer.

We have had personal experience in dealing with cancer and the difficult times that a diagnosis and treatment entails. It is through this experience that we are now committed to helping Camp Quality bring laughter into the lives of children living with cancer along with their families by participating in esCarpade.

Throughout this time we believed in the power of positive thinking and to remember to laugh at something each and everyday to cope with the tough days.

We have, along with our commitment to fundraising have recently completed volunteer training to become companions at Camp Quality camps and events. We believe in the work that Camp Quality does in helping children and their families have some relief from the sometimes trying times associated with cancer diagnosis and treatment.

esCarpade the major annual fundraiser for Camp Quality ,is an outback motoring adventure in which participants are encouraged to raise funds for Camp Quality along with visiting schools and promoting the work of Camp Quality.

Each year up to 80 cars and their crews , many of these entrants , who like the members of Team Afro , have regular jobs, families and commitments, yet still take time to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.

It is through people like you, who donate to our fundraising efforts that Camp Quality can continue to provide services by improving the quality of life for children living with cancer and their families through unrelenting optimism and the healing power of laughter.

More work on JUPITER ....

Morgen was enlisted as an honorary AFRO member to help get JUPITER looking more and more like a fire engine. It was time to get the hoses mounted.

Once the hoses were mounted , time for the ladder. As in most AFRO blog posts - always someone on the roof.

Oh the flexibility of youth , Morgen getting the height marker sorted. As JUPITER is 2.5m high, the marker is really needed.

Wilson again will be along for the trip.

The Afro Rocket Update

It's been a while since the last TEAM AFRO progress report.

All has been going well at Afro Headquarters.

Last Saturday , the crew were all free at the same time - so got to work finishing off some fiddly jobs on the AFRO ROCKET -

Wyn doing her best on the door handles

.

Dazza sorting the important part out ....

AFRO ROCKET or now to be known as "JUPITER" . JUPITER is FIREMAN SAM's trusty fire .engine

In the past few weeks JUPITER has had a heavy duty clutch installed , new spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor button ( all this is quoted from Treen - not too mechanical , but getting there) so a massive thanks to Sean from WHITE'S AUTOMOTIVE

The carby has been rebuilt and brought back to near new, again thanks to the guys from
CARB  & GAS at Woolloongabba.

The old girl got a small repair to the windscreen today - thanks to Paul from O'Briens at Underwood for his valuable contribution to our preparations for esCarpade.

So with JUPITER humming along well , it's now time to get the fundraising started.

Preparations for the major fundraiser at LEAF Espresso Bar in June are coming along well. With items such as "The Gladiators" signed print ,   4 VIP passes from Warner Bros theme parks, Riverlife abseiling voucher  , Albion Comedy Club tickets all up for auction and raffle.
