TEAM AFRO & WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

Team Afro has been involved with esCarpade, raising funds for Camp Quality since 2011. Though the team has changed from year to year the philosophy remains the same, to raise as much as we can to support the programs that Camp Quality offer.

We have had personal experience in dealing with cancer and the difficult times that a diagnosis and treatment entails. It is through this experience that we are now committed to helping Camp Quality bring laughter into the lives of children living with cancer along with their families by participating in esCarpade.

Throughout this time we believed in the power of positive thinking and to remember to laugh at something each and everyday to cope with the tough days.

We have, along with our commitment to fundraising have recently completed volunteer training to become companions at Camp Quality camps and events. We believe in the work that Camp Quality does in helping children and their families have some relief from the sometimes trying times associated with cancer diagnosis and treatment.

esCarpade the major annual fundraiser for Camp Quality ,is an outback motoring adventure in which participants are encouraged to raise funds for Camp Quality along with visiting schools and promoting the work of Camp Quality.

Each year up to 80 cars and their crews , many of these entrants , who like the members of Team Afro , have regular jobs, families and commitments, yet still take time to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.

It is through people like you, who donate to our fundraising efforts that Camp Quality can continue to provide services by improving the quality of life for children living with cancer and their families through unrelenting optimism and the healing power of laughter.

New tyres and exhaust for Jupiter

Darren has been busy securing new supporters for Fireman Sam crew , getting Jupiter new tyres to get him to Bundaberg and onto Woolongong in October.

First stop was , STICKERART at Underwoodwood to get a groovy windshield sticker .

Then off to see the guys at Bridgestone at Wooloongabba.
The number 1 franchise in Australia - we certainly know why.

Finally Darren has found a way to save some weight on Jupiter.... a smaller spare tyre.

Fits just right.

Thanks to Shalvin and his crew for fitting Jupiter with new tyres. It will mke all the difference in the dust, mud and who knows what else we will encounter on esCarpade.

After lunch it was time to move on to RIGHT PRICE EXHAUST at Slacks Creek to get the exhaust sorted.

Darren started to get a bit concerned with bits coming off from under the car at a rapid rate of knots....

Daz just wanted the exhaust pipe bent out to the side, to save the Fireman Sam crew being gassed out on esCarpade, but the guys at Right Price saw a few more jobs that needed attending to on the exhaust system - so off they went. Cutting , welding and getting it  sorted.

A very productive day for the Fireman Sam crew

Afro news

Darren took Jupiter to meet his big brother last week. Our little trooper looks so small  compared with the city firetrucks.

All the QLD esCarpade teams meet up in Gympie on Saturday for pre scrutineering and an experience esCarpade run through some, nice dirt tracks , we even cruised up the back of the main stage area of the famous Gympie muster . Such a shame it wasn't the week before, though I guess 8 crazy cars and their crews would have been a bit much  for the muster crowd.
It was great to catch up with new teams and meet the newest members of TEAM QLD,the Madagascar.... complete with the menagerie in the backseat   .

All the card had their turn on the hoist, mostly all good reports , with only  a few  things to be attended to on some of the newer cars.

The boys from Bundy ... THE MUD RATS.

The rat mobile , is so high Gordon couldn't get it up high enough to walk under on the hoist.
It sure is a might machine.

Booger mobile leading the way,until
Damo's pride & joy popped a spring.

The gang all meet up at Mapleton tavern for lunch after the run through from Gympie.
What could Ben & Gordon done wrong?
Mon giving the boys what could be a
"That's inappropriate, look and finger point"?

After a great lunch , more talk of the fun ahead of us all.
It was time for  a group photo in true escarpade style .
