TEAM AFRO & WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

Team Afro has been involved with esCarpade, raising funds for Camp Quality since 2011. Though the team has changed from year to year the philosophy remains the same, to raise as much as we can to support the programs that Camp Quality offer.

We have had personal experience in dealing with cancer and the difficult times that a diagnosis and treatment entails. It is through this experience that we are now committed to helping Camp Quality bring laughter into the lives of children living with cancer along with their families by participating in esCarpade.

Throughout this time we believed in the power of positive thinking and to remember to laugh at something each and everyday to cope with the tough days.

We have, along with our commitment to fundraising have recently completed volunteer training to become companions at Camp Quality camps and events. We believe in the work that Camp Quality does in helping children and their families have some relief from the sometimes trying times associated with cancer diagnosis and treatment.

esCarpade the major annual fundraiser for Camp Quality ,is an outback motoring adventure in which participants are encouraged to raise funds for Camp Quality along with visiting schools and promoting the work of Camp Quality.

Each year up to 80 cars and their crews , many of these entrants , who like the members of Team Afro , have regular jobs, families and commitments, yet still take time to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.

It is through people like you, who donate to our fundraising efforts that Camp Quality can continue to provide services by improving the quality of life for children living with cancer and their families through unrelenting optimism and the healing power of laughter.

All things Afro

Well it's been an exciting time at Afro HQ.

After getting the AFRO ROCKET back from paint , Darren & Treen started the fun job of putting the stickers on ... theming up.. woo hoo.. it looks great .

Thanks to CITY AUTO REPAIRS for giving our car a new lease of life .

THE ONLY RELEASED PIC OF THE AFRO ROCKET ... so far.
This pic has caused a few interesting comments .. is it a lollypop asked Tony from 808 .. NO wrong it's a .... the theme will be revealed soon.

So that was Saturday ..

Sunday brought esCarpade catch up , was great to meet the new entrants from Bundy and others from Gatton and Brisbane  and also see the loyal crew from last year , back again to raise loads for Camp Quality.

Many laughs were had reliving last years exploits and planning for this years. Our new crew member Wyn might be thinking " Why am I going along with this madcap crew for 7 days through goodness knows where?"

The lucky two , who know the secret theme...

After the day out Darren & Treen got home and within 10 minutes of getting out of the car Darren was at it again ... more bits to be done on the AFRO ROCKET... we really so lucky to have a , dare I say it? A good reliable car with only a few things to attend to before hitting the road in October . We get to make it look good , so heaps of fun...

After working on a couple of bits and pieces , Darren asked me
" How hard is to to make a Facebook Page?"
Me:  "not hard why?"
Dazza :"We need one for TEAM QLD "
Sure thing - all done , so find us on Facebook TeamQld Escarpade

What else on Afro turf?

GREAT NEWS --- We are having a major fundraiser.
What first was an idea of a local cafe hosting a fundraising breakfast has turned into a WEEK of fundraising activities culminating with a black tie cocktail function...

LEAF ESPRESSO BAR at Tarragindi has joined us in our fundraising efforts by offering to run donations and activities in the week of 24th June and host the Friday night function. We were totally blown away by Mal and Cassie's enthusiasm ans support for our venture.
Thanks to them so much and their business partner Scott.

Through Facebook we have seen some of the water crossings for this years esCarpade , it has been quoted that 9 crossings up to a certain point , and that's just out of Bundy. Sounds like fun ...

So that it for now .. more work on the car and lots more fundraising.
