TEAM AFRO & WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

Team Afro has been involved with esCarpade, raising funds for Camp Quality since 2011. Though the team has changed from year to year the philosophy remains the same, to raise as much as we can to support the programs that Camp Quality offer.

We have had personal experience in dealing with cancer and the difficult times that a diagnosis and treatment entails. It is through this experience that we are now committed to helping Camp Quality bring laughter into the lives of children living with cancer along with their families by participating in esCarpade.

Throughout this time we believed in the power of positive thinking and to remember to laugh at something each and everyday to cope with the tough days.

We have, along with our commitment to fundraising have recently completed volunteer training to become companions at Camp Quality camps and events. We believe in the work that Camp Quality does in helping children and their families have some relief from the sometimes trying times associated with cancer diagnosis and treatment.

esCarpade the major annual fundraiser for Camp Quality ,is an outback motoring adventure in which participants are encouraged to raise funds for Camp Quality along with visiting schools and promoting the work of Camp Quality.

Each year up to 80 cars and their crews , many of these entrants , who like the members of Team Afro , have regular jobs, families and commitments, yet still take time to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.

It is through people like you, who donate to our fundraising efforts that Camp Quality can continue to provide services by improving the quality of life for children living with cancer and their families through unrelenting optimism and the healing power of laughter.

Team Afro 2013 on the road to Bundy

From the 12th to 19th October Darren , Treen & Laurie took part in the much anticipated 2013 Camp Quality EsCarpade.
The 'Fireman Sam' crew of 'Jupiter' headed off early on Sat 12th with Tony & Graham from Car 808 and Rob of Team Kermit
(and token NSW entrant in the Team QLD convoy).
At each stop on the way to Bundaberg , more EsCarpadians were collected , with Team Afro,808,Kermit, Booger Mobile, Shark Mobile and Team Ryan
arriving in Bundaberg for scrutineering at Bundaberg Toyota.
It was great catching up with old friends from years gone by and checking out the new cars and welcoming new teams.

Darren had fun with 'the other Darren' by presenting him with his new flags that were to be taken on his car through the whole journey
from Bundaberg to Wollongong. This came about from NSW loosing the state of origin...again.

We spent the afternoon catching up with other EsCarpadians watching the qualifying rounds of the Bathurst motor race and rugby 7's .

Out first night dinner and briefing session was held at Bundaberg Civic Centre , before dinner ,we were welcomed by Simon Rowntree , CEO of Camp Quality and were briefed by Ben the course co-ordinator about what to expect and how to handle various situation encountered on EsCarpade. Then onto dinner and fun.

After a great evening it was time to get ready for the first of many busy days ahead.

EsCarpade had started .
